A 58-year old man in Japan was arrested on January 15 for allegedly violating the Trademark Act. The man is accused of modifying actual Nintendo Switch hardware to run pirated games before reselling the consoles. This news comes to us from NTV News and translated by Automaton.
This is apparently the first ever arrest related to modifying Nintendo Switch hardware in Japan. The man allegedly modified parts on the Switch boards that allowed the modified devices to play pirated games. He also allegedly loaded up each device with 27 different games and then sold those modified devices.
Reports say that the man modified second-hand consoles bought for less than retail value. He then resold the consoles, now modified, for about $180 each.
The police are also apparently investigating into other possible violations.
