  • Yakuza Studio Announces Two New Games - A Return of a Classic Fighting Game and a New IP

Ryu Ga Gotoku has been very busy.

The development studio that is best known for the Yakuza / Like a Dragon titles, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio), has been very busy. Last week at The Game Awards, RGG Studio showed off not one, but two games that they're working on. Neither of them is a new Like a Dragon title.

First off, RGG Studio shared that they are working on a new Virtua Fighter. Very little was shown off as part of this reveal other than it is being developed at RGG Studio. You can register your email at the Virtua Fighter website to be informed of updates, but there's not much available just yet.

For the time being, you can get your Virtua Fighter fix with the release of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. on January 27, 2025. This is an updated release of the 2006 fighting game with added support for rollback netcode, 4K visuals, and additional content.

The other major project underway at RGG Studio is something called Project Century. This is a new action game set in 1915. The trailer featured a lot of fighting and a fair bit of gore. The trailer doesn't make it clear what, if anything, there is to do in the game outside of fighting though.

The reveal looks great, especially for fans of beat-em-ups, but there aren't too many concrete details to go on for Project Century. Chances are also pretty good that "Project Century" isn't the final name for the game either.

      Do It For Her.

Yakuza Kiwami is an updated remake of the original Yakuza title, a game that was originally released back in 2006 in North America for the PlayStation 2. Right out of the gate, Kiwami can and should be considered more than just a simple remake. It feels more like an extension of the fantastic Yakuza 0 that came to North America earlier this year and less like a game that came out nearly ten years ago. Yakuza Kiwami delivers updated assets, visuals, and even completely...

The best Yakuza game to date.
Since January of 2017, I've had the good fortune to be able to review every Yakuza release that has come out on the PlayStation 4. It started with Yakuza 0, followed by Yakuza Kiwami, and then Yakuza 6 just a few months back. I have seen the beginning and the emotional end to this franchise. I have played it across two different game engines. Every entry has offered up something new and unique to experience while still maintaining a certain alluring appeal...
