Epic Games is making a rather significant change to some of the items featured in the regular Fortnite Battle Passes. In short, Epic says that future Battle Pass items may appear in the Fortnite shop, but only after 18 or more months from the Battle Pass expiration.
There will be no fundamental changes to the Battle Pass or the contents of each Battle Pass. This means that for those who miss out on future Battle Passes or only wanted one or two items from a Battle Pass, they may be able to purchase them after a year and a half has passed. Obviously, the only Battle Pass items you'll see in the Store later include the cosmetic items. These include outfits, Back Blings, pickaxes, emotes, instruments, decals, wraps, loading screens, banner icons, and more.
An FAQ also notes some other details you may be curious about. For instance, alt styles included in a Battle Pass may vary each time the base item appears in the Shop. Items in the Bonus Rewards and Quest Rewards tabs may also be available for purchase after the same 18-month wait.
Epic Games notes that one of the big reasons they are making this change is because they "want players down the road to enjoy Battle Pass content such as Outfits based on popular license characters."
Unfortunately, the wording seems to very clearly indicate that this is a change that will impact future Battle Passes. This means that items that were a part of the current (Chapter 5 Season 3: Wrecked) and past Battle Passes still probably won't be made available in the Store.
