Jack Black is no stranger to the world of video games. His career started back in 1982 when he appeared in a television commercial for Pitfall. Black voiced the main character in the Double Fine Productions game Brutal Legend. Brutal Legend also included the song "The Metal" which is a song by Black and his rock partner Kyle Gass, better known together as Tenacious D.

Most recently, Jack Black voiced Bowser in the highly acclaimed The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Black also launched a YouTube channel back in 2018 called Jablinski Games, which included vlog like content as well as gaming content. He is also voicing Claptrap in the upcoming Borderlands film.

Now, Jack Black is about to take on another gaming related venture. Deadline reports that Black has been cast to play Steve in the upcoming Minecraft movie. For those unfamiliar with Minecraft, Steve is the name given to the default male player character in the game. For the longest time, Steve was the only playable character model included in Minecraft.

Jack Black is joining other confirmed actors: Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Eugen Hansen. Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, is also said to have a prominent role in the film. Momoa's own On the Roam is also one of the production companies bringing Minecraft to the big screen.

The Minecraft movie is based off the bestselling game series of the same name. Outside of knowing that the film will be live-action, details about the plot or potential release date are not yet known.
