Blizzard shares what to expect from each season of content for Diablo 4.

A developer livestream that aired a short time ago today had Blizzard talking all about the cost and content for the Diablo 4 Battle Passes. The development team offered a look at the sort of rewards you can expect to see in these Battle Passes along with how progression will work.

Each season will not expand upon the story found in Diablo 4. For more story content, you'll have to wait for whatever expansion may be released for Diablo 4 in the future. These seasons will instead focus on offering players a bunch of themed content. While the obvious content here involves cosmetics, Blizzard says that they will hope to add things like new gameplay mechanics, characters, self-contained story questlines, items, and balancing tweaks.

The self-contained quests included with the seasons will not have any impact on the game's main narrative. Separating this content from the story allows the team at Blizzard to get a little more creative with the seasonal quests that are "not bound by the campaign."

Each Diablo 4 season will run for three months. The first season will begin in mid to late July. Each season will allow players to begin tackling the extra content only after completing the base game. The good news here is that after you beat the game with one character, you can skip additional characters to the post-game experience immediately. Each season will require that you start a new character.

Progress is earned in each season just by earning experience (called Favor) via normal play. A "Season Journey" feature will help you quickly level up your Battle Pass. There will be various Objectives that you can complete that will net you seasonal rewards such as crafting materials and Legendary Aspects for your Codex of Power.

There will be a free path and a paid route for each season. The free Battle Pass offers 27 tiers of rewards. Some of these rewards include Smoldering Ashes that can be redeemed for seasonal blessings (buffs) for experience points, gold, potion extensions, or Obols. The paid Battle Pass route will not include additional Smoldering Ashes. Paid Battle Pass options are as follow:

Premium Pass (about $10 USD)
  • 63 additional tiers
  • Two full cosmetic armor sets for each class
  • Weapon and armor cosmetics
  • Seasonal mount and mount armor
Accelerated Pass (about $25 USD)
  • Everything from the Premium Pass above
  • Immediate unlock of the 20 tiers
  • Wings of the Creator emote
Blizzard also briefly mentioned that there will be a cash shop for Diablo 4. They say that the cash shop items are purely cosmetic. Furthermore, all class cosmetics are available for all characters across your entire account.

Diablo 4 will be out on June 6, 2023. This will give players at least a full month before the first season launches in that "mid to late July" window. Those looking for some Diablo 4 action earlier than June can join in on the Server Slam beta period running from May 12 - May 14.
