Across the weekend running from January 8th through the 9th, Steam broke all sorts of records. As we assumed prior, these user records hit by Steam were probably helped out quite a bit by the surge in popularity of a game called Goose Goose Duck. This is the Among Us clone originally released in October 2021 that rose in popularity over the past week after a K-pop star from the group BTS, Kim "V" Tae-hyung, played the game on stream.
Yes, that is seriously all it took. Since then, Goose Goose Duck continued to grow in popularity at what some might call "an alarming rate." According to today's new announcement, Goose Goose Duck sees daily concurrent player counts surpassing the 800,000 mark.
Today's announcement isn't all about user counts and such. There is also word that a new update is out for the game that adds in a new map, new roles, new gameplay mechanics, and more.
As the duck trying to kill the other geese, head to the new Ancient Sands map to summon the Mummy to indiscriminately off the fellow fowl, unleash swarms of locusts to trap enemies as the Warlock Duck, and camouflage oneself in the periodic sandstorm that appears outdoors to lose potential pursuers.
Get one jump ahead of the ducks by opening doors from both directions as the Street Urchin Goose, surveil wayward birds in the sandstorm as the Tracker Goose, and consult the Magic Mirror Forbidden Tunnel’s Magic Mirror to watch over faraway rooms (and future targets).
Give two new roles a try, available on all maps. Fed up about the complaints, the Esper Goose is joining the dark side and becoming the Esper Duck to kill geese remotely with its psychic powers!
Geese gain an obsessive new role with the Stalker Goose. Obsess over other players and follow them around to uncover the bird in disguise.​
