Blizzard is offering players double XP, a weapon charm, and a free skin in an effort to apologize for the abysmal launch of Overwatch 2. The studio extended a written apology to fans for the myriad of issues that impacted the game for several days right when the game launched on October 4, 2022.
Overwatch 2 will have several double XP weekends coming up that will let players catch up. The game was essentially unplayable up until just a few days back, so this should help you get to where you think you should be if you were able to play as much as you wanted at launch. Sadly, the specific dates for these double XP weekends were not yet shared as Blizzard notes they'll share the specific dates soon."
Blizzard notes that anybody who logs into the game between October 25 and December 6 will also be given a new Legendary skin for Reaper. The skin is called Cursed Captain and can be seen above. Players will also be freely given the Health Pack weapon charm. You can find a picture of that charm below.
The issues that have impacted Overwatch 2's launch week ranged from several DDoS attacks, to long queue times, to long match searching times, to random disconnects, to a variety of technical issues that caused the game to crash for several players. Gameplay exploits for characters like Torbjorn and Bastion were also found that ruined the fun for those that were actually able to get into games. This all doesn't even include the issue of Blizzard's policy that requires players to connect a phone number to their account, a policy that Blizzard partially backtracked on, but one that Activision will implement for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
