Prices are going up around the world, except for the United States.
PS5 price increase

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan took to the PlayStation Blog today to announce a price increase for the PlayStation 5. Ryan says that prices are going up by a fairly decent amount in some territories due to "high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends." These price increases are coming to markets throughout Europe, Middle East, Afrida, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Canada. The only place where prices don't seem to be increasing is the United States.

Here is a list of the increased prices in each region.

  • Europe
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – €549.99
    • PS5 Digital Edition – €449.99
  • UK
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – £479.99
    • PS5 Digital Edition – £389.99
  • Japan (effective Sept. 15, 2022)
    • PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – Â¥60,478 yen (including tax)

  • Canada

This translates roughly into an increase of €50 in the European Union, an increase of £30 in the UK, an increase of ¥10,000 in Japan, and so on. Why there is no price increase for the United States is really anybody's guess.
