Features include passthrough and broadcasting.
PlayStation VR2

Sony just revealed the first public look at the user interface for their upcoming PlayStation VR2 headset. With this early look, we see what the passthrough functionality will look like (that Sony calls see-through), how you will customize your play area, various option screens, and more.

See-through view is what Sony is calling what is commonly referred to as "passthrough" view on VR headsets. This is simply a way for those wearing VR headsets to see their physical surroundings through the use of external cameras embedded within the headset itself. Accessing see-through view can be done by pressing a function button on the headset or by using the Card in a system Sony is calling the Control Center.

This Control Center seems to be a sort of hub for all things PlayStation VR2 related while you are wearing the headset. Control Center looks like it will allow you quick access to the see-through feature, as well as providing options for screen brightness, screen size, toggling on or off vibration, setting your play area, or adjusting other visual features.

Sony says that there will be a new broadcast feature coming with PlayStation VR2 that you can activate should you also have a PlayStation 5 HD Camera connected. This will allow you to broadcast both the gameplay and a view of your physical self to the world through your streaming platform of choice.

Customizing your play area isn't all that new to VR users, but it may be new to those who have never had a VR device before. Sony aims to make play area customization as easy as possible by offering a couple of methods for getting it set up. You can use the cameras on the headset to scan the room to get a rough outline of your play area set up. Then, you can use the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers to refine the boundaries of the play area to help ensure you don't smack into anything while playing.

Sony also says that there will be two distinct modes included for PlayStation VR2 media consumption: VR Mode and Cinematic Mode

In VR Mode, players can enjoy VR game content in a 360 view in a virtual environment. Content will be displayed in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye) with 90Hz/120Hz frame rate.

In Cinematic Mode, players can view the PS5 system and UI and all non-VR game and media content on a virtual cinema screen. Content in Cinematic Mode will be displayed in 1920×1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rate.
While no release date nor pricing have been announced yet, Sony says that they still have a lot to share soon. More information about the launch date and additional games will hopefully arrive in the weeks or months ahead.
