A free update for Resident Evil 2, 3, and 7 rolled out this week for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Included in the update was the addition of ray tracing support and some other graphical enhancements. While this was mostly for the next-gen consoles the PC version also received the new features as well.
Sadly, this update came with several drawbacks for many users. Those who were previously able to run the game at decent framerates with the old version suddenly found themselves experiencing poor framerates and performance. In addition, the update also broke compatibility for several community made mods for the game.
Due to this "overwhelming community response" from PC users, Capcom made the previous versions of the game available again to players. This means that those who want to roll back to the old, DirectX 11 based version of the game, can now do so without issue.
Capcom shared this news with a new post on Steam.

Due to overwhelming community response, we've reactivated the previous version that does not include ray tracing and enhanced 3D audio. Both enhanced and previous versions will be made available going forward.

- Click LIBRARY in Steam client.
- Right-click the game and select ""Properties...""
- In the pop-up menu, select ""BETAS""
- From the pull-down menu, select ""dx11_non-rt"" (Note: password not required)
- Close the pop-up menu and let the Steam client auto-update the game
- You should be able to launch the game normally once the update completes
- Please note some of the in-game option settings will be reset as a result of the rollback process.

I'm enjoying added RT, HDR etc, but I'm also really glad people running older hardware or mods can play again.
Imagine if EA did similar and allowed people with PCs running graphics cards newer than their sports games' decade old recommendations to get newest gen graphics...
