Developer confirms that a new Lynx School will be the focus in the new Witcher game.
Ever since the reveal that CD Projekt Red is working on a new Witcher game, fans have been going crazy formulating theories about this or that. Who will be the main protagonist in the next game? Is that medallion in the teaser image a lynx? And so on.
At least one of those theories has been confirmed. CD Projekt Red global communication director Robert Malinowski told Eurogamer that the medallion featured in the teaser image is shaped after a lynx.
In The Witcher universe, medallions are a way of knowing a Witcher's profession. It also indicates which school a Witcher comes from. For instance, Geralt's medallion is based off of a wolf. These medallions are also used to detect nearby threats or magic such as illusions, spells, and even magical creatures
Beyond the wolf, there are other medallions based off a cat, griffin, bear, viper, manticore, and crane. That means there are schools for each of these medallion types. What that also means, is that so far, there has not been a school based off of a lynx. That is, until now.
CD Projekt Red seems to be creating an entirely new Witcher school for their next game. It seems pretty obvious at this point that someone other than Geralt will take the lead. Maybe Ciri? Maybe someone new? As the next Witcher game is still probably several years away, that should be plenty of time for fans to get their theories out there.
