NACON just announced today the world's first Xbox One controller that supports Dolby Atmos for headphones. This controller is called the RIG PRO Compact and is a customizable wired controller that will be made available to North American players on May 20.
Dolby Atmos offers up 3D sound to the listener. Some say that this allows the player to react more accurately. As someone who has used positional audio for a while, I can say that this rings true. In order to make use of the Dolby Atmos support, you will need to download the Dolby Access app from the Windows Store on Xbox or Windows 10, plug in your controller, then plug in your headphones to the controller.
Besides the support for Dolby Atmos, the controller also boasts features like custom button mapping, the ability to change trigger sensitivity, and the ability to control dead zones using the PRO Compact app for Xbox. Keep in mind that this controller will also work on your PC in addition to the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
The PRO Compact will be available on May 20 at Best Buy in the United States or available for pre-order online from GameStop, Walmart, and Target. Canadian players can get it from Walmart. It comes in both Black and White and will run you just $49.99 (USD).
