Become a starfighter pilot and battle it out this October.
Star Wars: Squadrons

On October 2, EA Motive and Lucasfilm will release Star Wars: Squadrons, a new first-person game set in the Star Wars universe. You will engage in 5v5 multiplayer dogfights, fleet battles, and even experience an original story that is set "during the final days of the Galactic Empire and the rise of the New Republic after the events of Star War: Return of the Jedi." Currently, the game will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC via Origin, PC via Steam, and PC via the Epic Games Store. Not only that, but it will be playable in VR on both PlayStation 4 and PC.

In Star Wars: Squadrons, you will get to experience the life of a starfighter first hand, from both the New Republic and Imperial fleets. Groups will get to plan skirmishes with their teammates in the briefing room prior to taking off. The focus of the 5v5 matches will be to take out the other team's flagship during Fleet Battles. If you're just looking to kill, and be killed, the Dogfights are more of a deathmatch style of game mode. This will all take place above places like Yavin Prime and Galitan, to name just a couple of locales.

It wouldn't be a Star Wars game from EA if there weren't a lot of cosmetic options included. There are plenty of those in addition to actual gameplay altering bonuses. These gameplay altering items can be earned only through gameplay. As you progress through various ranks, you will be able to upgrade components like weapons, hulls, engines, and shields in order to customize both the look and the performance of your starfighter. The purely cosmetic items will allow you to customize the look of your cockpit, ship exteriors, and even the appearance of your pilot.

Perhaps the best news here is that there will be full cross-play support across the board. This means you will be able to play with and against others on the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PC, and VR.

Star Wars: Squadrons will also feature a full single-player campaign for those that are more into that then playing with and against others online.

Star Wars: Squadrons will also feature a single-player story that brings to life events following the Battle of Endor when the Rebel Alliance has successfully destroyed the Death Star II. Through the story, players will learn what it means to be a pilot as they battle from the alternating perspectives of two customizable pilots, one serving in the New Republic’s heroic Vanguard Squadron, while the other fights for the Galactic Empire’s fearsome Titan Squadron. The authentic story features a diverse cast of original characters, as well as some cameos from familiar faces in the Star Wars galaxy.
Star Wars: Squadrons is currently available for pre-order for just $39.99 (USD). You can purchase it for your platform of choice. The only option not listed on that buy page is, oddly enough, the Epic Games Store option. So have an affiliate link, courtesy of yours truly.

There will be a longer gameplay focused trailer revealed on Thursday during EA Play Live.
