Apex Legends

As expected, a new battle royale game from the Titanfall developer, Respawn Entertainment, was just released for the PC via Origin, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. It's called Apex Legends and while it does away with the Titans, it still retains much of the parkour style running and traversal that fans of the series love.

Players will select one of eight different "Legends" that all have unique abilities. As with most battle royale style games, the last team standing at the end is the winner. Teams can be made up of to three players.

Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.

Apex Legendsshowcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?

The innovations don’t stop there as Apex Legendsalso delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.
The game will include "Seasons" which will officially kick off in March. Much like similar titles, these seasons will include the ability to purchase a Battle Pass (hmm...) that give access to exclusive cosmetic items. In addition, each season brings about new themed content to the game that includes new weapons, new Legends, new skins, and more.

An official Apex Legends website is also now live. It contains a very handy FAQ for all of your burning questions, including word that cross-play between platforms is not available at this time. Bummer.

Those looking to try this out on PC should be rather content with the game's minimum requirements, which are fairly lenient. There also seems to be a fairly good list of PC specific options included with the game.
