Early this morning, Sony announced the PlayStation Classic. Similar in style to the NES Classic or SNES Classic, the PlayStation Classic will come with 20 games pre-loaded onto a miniature piece of hardware that resembles the original PlayStation console. It's gearing up for release on December 3, the 24th anniversary of the original's release.
The PlayStation Classic will retail for $99 (USD) and includes 20 games, two controllers, an HDMI cable, and a USB cable. Oddly, it seems as though the two controllers aren't of the DualShock variety, but rather the OG PlayStation controllers. Yes kids, there existed a time where controllers didn't come with analog sticks. The first DualShock wasn't released until a few years into the PlayStation's life.
Just like Nintendo, Sony also decided not to include a needed piece of hardware for the device to work. The PlayStation Classic doesn't seem to come with a USB AC adapter, so you'll need to find one of those around your house.
I mentioned about how the PlayStation Classic will come with 20 games, right? Well, the full list of games isn't actually revealed yet. We already know it won't come with games that require the analog sticks, like Ape Escape, so what could we expect? Well, so far the only games that have been officially announced are Final Fantasy VII, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer Type 4, Tekken 3, and Wild Arms.
The rest of the games are anybody's guess right now.
I can only assume that Sony has plans for another one of these consoles that features DualShock controllers and DualShock capable games, because to not include any of that with this release is truly baffling.
