The Budgetier
A top-of-the-line smartphone isn't out reach for anyone, even the gamer on a budget. In fact, the Nexus 6P comes with top-of-the-line components for about half the price of its competitors. Why? The Nexus line is Google's first attempt at a physical phone and the tech giant is eager to gobble some of the market share. And it's succeeding.
Now, you may think a product that's half the price of other top phones may take a hit in performance, but you'd be surprised. The Nexus 6P has last year's Snapdragon 810 processor and Adreno 430 GPU.
These put the 6P within arm's length of other products that cost twice as much. The 3 gigabytes of RAM will also serve you well, as will the 5.7-inch AMOLED screen. While the phone's specs may be slightly off the absolute best, for half the price, you'll have a phone capable of playing all the newest games.
The Old Kid's the New Kid
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is one of the best phones on the market. Take everything about the Nexus 6P and bump it up a notch. It has a Snapdragon 820 processor, Andreno 530 GPU and 4 gigabytes of RAM. This hardware ensures that you can play the top, current games with demanding graphics, but also the games of the future. The Galaxy S7 does have a smaller screen at 5.1 inches, which is preferable for those with smaller hands, but also fits snugly and easily in anyone's palm.
Furthermore, a Samsung-only feature, a game launcher app, gives you a central interface from which to manage your various games. The game center also lets you block notifications and record your session, so you can post it to video services like YouTube or Twitch.
The Old Lady's Makeover
Okay, this may be the first time the iPhone has been referred to as an old lady, but the iPhone 7 is the tried-and-true smartphone of its predecessors. However, there are some notable differences when it comes to the hardware and headphone jack (hint: there isn't one). The hardware in the newest iPhone is different than other models in that it is a system-on-a-chip. The A10 Fusion is a 64-bit, quad-core processor, and Apple has claimed that it is 40 percent faster than the previous A9.
The quad-core splits functions two ways: Two cores are high performance and tackle the most strain on your phone (read: gaming). Meanwhile, the other two cores run at a fifth the power and maintain the menial tasks you ask your phone to do. Think this is good?
The newest iPhone also boasts a six-core GPU, which splits the graphic tasks between them all. After all this, the iPhone 7 only has 2 gigabytes of RAM, half as much as the Galaxy S7. However, iOS requires different specs than Android for it to run properly, so you won't see any lag while you play.
