Iran has become the first country to outright ban Pokemon Go due to concerns over "security." Iran's official group that oversees online activity, the High Council of Virtual Spaces, says that the ban comes due to unspecified "security concerns."

While Iran is the first country to outright ban the game, smaller bans of the game have been issued around the world. Indonesia forbids their police officers from playing while on duty. Sex offenders in New York are forbidden from playing Pokemon Go while on parole. Places such as the Arlington Nation Cemetery and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, both in Washington, D.C., have also banned the use of the game while visiting.
