  • Steam Surpassed 40 Million Concurrent Users this Past Weekend

About .5% of the world's population was using Steam at the same time.
Chart showing concurrent users of Steam, showing a peak of over 40 million concurrent users.

On a boring weekend where there were no major holidays or events to warrant it, Steam yet again set a new concurrent user record. On Sunday, March 2, 2025 Valve's digital storefront saw a concurrent user peak of over 40 million people logged in at one time.

According to Valve's official charts, the exact peak was 40,272,727. This does differ ever so slightly from what SteamDB reports as the peak, which was 40,270,997. I believe the small discrepancy comes down to when exactly the data is pulled, especially from SteamDB.

In September 2024, Steam first cracked the 38 million concurrent user mark. In early December 2024, Steam then surpassed the 39 million mark for concurrent users.

      Isn't that around 0.5%?

Yeah, something like that. I really think I just had the "8" from "8 billion" estimate for the world population in my head and just put that digit in by mistake when typing here.

Steam Sets New Concurrent User Record Just Because They Could
    by Shawn Zipay
Steam is off to a strong start in 2024.

You would think that new concurrent user records might have been set during the big Steam Winter Sale, which ended just earlier this week. You would think that, but apparently you would be wrong. Instead, a new concurrent user record was set by Steam on a weekend in which there are no sales, no Steam Fests, or really anything else truly notable going on.

On the morning of January 7, 20224, Steam set a new concurrent user record....

Steam and CS:GO Break Concurrent User Records Yet Again
    by Shawn Zipay
Actually, they broke records twice this weekend.

It seems like Valve isn't a fan of vinyl because they've been busy breaking records left and right this past month. In early February, we brought you word about how Counter-Strike: Global Offensive broke its old concurrent player record twice in the same weekend. Once the dust settled on the whirlwind weekend of February 8-9, 2020, the top number saw over 901,000 concurrent players enjoying CS:GO at one time. This had beaten a record...
