XBOX: 1,600 Layoffs Today, Another 1,600 Over the Next Year, Four Studios Now Independent or Sold, Arkane in Limbo

More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

PlayStation is Killing Physical Game Discs

Digital only after January 2028.

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

Bungie Announces the End of Destiny 2

All good things...

Bungie is calling it quits on Destiny 2. The Sony owned Marathon developer announced the final live-service content update for Destiny 2. Today's announcement was a long time coming and one that most fans saw the writing on the wall for months ago.

That final content update for Destiny 2, Monument of Triumph, takes place on June 9, 2026. Bungie says that they will begin a "new journey as a studio" on that date with includes working on their...

Lord of Hatred Review: Diablo 4 Finally Finds Its Final Form

This is Diablo 4 at its best. I mean it this time. For real.

Returning to the world of Sanctuary for this latest chapter feels like a true homecoming for those of us who have spent hundreds of hours traversing its dark and unforgiving landscapes since the base game launched back in 2023. The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

Battlefield Devs 6 Looking Into 'Unexpectedly Fast' Time to Death

If you encountered this, the devs want to see it.

The Battlefield 6 open beta has come and gone, at least for the first weekend, but that doesn't mean the teams at Electronic Arts are taking a break. DICE developer Florian Le Bihan took to social media with requests from players to share video examples of "unexpectedly fast" time-to-death (TTD) encountered during the open beta.

It seems like some players have reported experiencing a TTD that, to them, felt...

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 to Require Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 Enabled

This is likely to become the new norm for future releases.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will require PC players to enable both Secure Boot and utilize TPM 2.0 on their machines.

The start of Season 5 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone will actually serve as the gradual lead-in to the requirements for Black Ops 7. In Season 5, both Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 will be optional and will not be required to be enabled.

    The thirst is real.

The beta for Battlefield 6 doesn't even start until 4 am (ET) on August 7th, but that hasn't stopped literally tens of thousands of people from launching the game and staring at what is essentially just a menu. IGN reported that one of their employees saw a queue when they launched the beta client on Steam.

IGN's Jesse Gomez booted up the Battlefield 6 Open Beta on Steam. Upon doing so, they were presented with a message saying that the game servers...

EA Again Snubs PC with NHL 26 Reveal

    It's been 17 years, EA. C'mon.

Electronic Arts unveiled EA Sports NHL 26 with a release date set for September 12, 2025. Unsurprisingly, NHL 26 is only coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but not PC nor any Switch platform.

It's a bit of a joke at this point really. Electronic Arts seems to be extremely weird about which sports franchises they bring to PC and which they don't. Madden? PGA Tour? Soccer? Yep, they're on PC. Then you have things like College Football,...

Cooler Master has decided to sell a limited edition pre-configured PC. They're calling this the "MasterFrame 360 Panorama S Limited Edition" and only 100 of them will be sold. The asking price for it is just $3,099.99 (they say it was originally $3,599.99).

Aside from the rather silly name and insane price, the system at least includes some pretty nice hardware. Really, the only thing that I am surprised by is...

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
