XBOX: 1,600 Layoffs Today, Another 1,600 Over the Next Year, Four Studios Now Independent or Sold, Arkane in Limbo

More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

PlayStation is Killing Physical Game Discs

Digital only after January 2028.

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

Lord of Hatred Review: Diablo 4 Finally Finds Its Final Form

This is Diablo 4 at its best. I mean it this time. For real.

Returning to the world of Sanctuary for this latest chapter feels like a true homecoming for those of us who have spent hundreds of hours traversing its dark and unforgiving landscapes since the base game launched back in 2023. The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

Nuk3town has been re-designed from the ground up to highlight Treyarch’s new momentum-based, chained-movement system, allowing players to battle in this adrenaline-charged multiplayer map. • Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Scales Between 30 and 60 FPS on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3

On the old generation of consoles, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Activision states that Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 will scale between 30 and 60 frames per second. That is absolutely horrific. Anybody who has experienced it can tell you that jumping between 30 and 60 fps in a competitive shooter is an incredibly unpleasant experience. At the very least, they are saying that the framerate for the Zombies mode will be locked to 30 fps. Just a moment though, because it gets worse. Activision ...

Black Ops 3 Realistic Difficulty Sounds Annoying

Treyarch explains the "Realistic" difficulty setting that will be an option in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.
Then there’s the new Realistic difficulty level to take into account too. “[In Realistic] you have one point of life, so if you’re shot once, you’re dead. It completely changes the way you play the game,” says Blundell. “You all have to survive as a group. You end up respecting the level in a completely different way, and once gunfire opens up, everyone just drops

Treyarch Apologizes for Stupid Twitter PR Blunder

A couple of weeks back, the Call of Duty Twitter made a super stupid PR move when they put up fake news that, let's be honest here, was a little too real for most people's liking.

Neither Treyarch nor Activision ever made public apologies for the big PR blunder. However, Treyarch's Jason Blundell did say that he was "personally very sorry" about the entire mess.
"Here’s my view – and again, I’m a simple director and not involved in the marketing at all," Blundell

Hate linear progression through your games? Good news if you're looking forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 then, because the entire campaign will be unlocked from the start. Say whaaaat? You heard me!

This news comes courtesy of a Eurogamer interview with Jason Blundell, the Director of Campaign for Black Ops 3.
"It gives them the flexibility to consume the content how they want," Blundell said. "The unlocking level system is an archaic mentality we've had since w

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Reportedly 45GB on Consoles

Moments ago, the Microsoft Store listed the download size for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. It looks like the game will require about 45GB of storage space on the Xbox One. I would assume that the PlayStation 4 version is also about the same size.

It does not look like the size is still up on the Xbox page, at least for the US store.

There will be no single player story mode for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on either the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3. All you will get is the competitive multiplayer and the Zombies mode. That is it.
As we announced back in June, we know that there are still fans waiting to make the switch to the newest console hardware and developers Beenox and Mercenary Technology have been working tirelessly to bring as much of the Black Ops 3 gameplay as possible to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
