  • Store Suspends Yu-Gi-Oh Tournaments Because the Players Were Too Stinky

    Uh oh, stinky!
A drawing of Moe from The Simpsons with stink lines.

Chronos Games & Gifts is done dealing with smelly and dirty Yu-Gi-Oh players. The independently owned tabletop game store in Beaverton, Oregon, has suspended Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments for a week after they received "multiple bad reviews" and complaints due to the poor hygiene of tournament participants.

The week-long suspension of Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments was announced through its public Discord server. The full statement from Chronos Games & Gifts also suggests that there were also people at these tournaments "mistreating the restrooms." I honestly don't really want to know what they mean by this because I just finished eating dinner.

We regret to inform you that there will be a one week suspension on our local events. We have had issues with people mistreating the restrooms and multiple bad reviews because of poor hygiene. As a reminder, we encourage players to follow Konami guidelines and report anyone who does not.
Those "Konami guidelines" referenced were official tournament rules that were updated back in 2019 to include an entire section on hygiene. The new section on hygiene basically says, "if you or your clothing is excessively dirty or bad-smelling, you can be penalized."

When the stinky gamers stereotype meets "where there's smoke, there's fire". Reminds me of going to LAN parties in England back in the early 2000s, where "the great unwashed" took on particularly potent meaning.
