Nintendo announced in the early morning hours on May 8 that the price of the Switch 2 console will go up by at least $50 in the United States, pushing the price from $449.99 to $499.99. Other global regions will see similar price increases. These pricing changes aren't expected to go live until September 1, 2026.
Nintendo says that "the impact of various changes in market conditions" are the big reason behind the price increases. It's not completely unexpected. There was a report going around as recently as this week that Nintendo was being pressured by investors to increase the price of their Switch 2 hardware.
In Japan, the price of the Switch 2 and original Switch models are seeing price increases. The price adjustments in Japan take effect on May 25, 2026.

The bad news doesn't stop there though, at least if you are living in Japan. Nintendo is also increasing the price of their Nintendo Switch Online services, playing cards, and hanafuda/kabufuda cards in Japan.
