Nintendo just announced that a full remake of Star Fox 64 is coming June 25 for the Switch 2. The announcement came from a hastily announced Nintendo Direct that aired today.
The remake is simply called Star Fox. Those who saw The Super Mario Galaxy Movie may already be familiar with the stylish new look for Fox McCloud.
This is a complete from the ground-up remake of Star Fox 64. This means you will take control over the Arwing and fly around, over, and within familiar locations such as Corneria. There are several new additions in this release that makes it a bit more than a simple remake.
Star Fox will feature mouse controls. Two players will be able to "share" a ship with one being the pilot and the other person controlling the ship's guns. Up to four players can play together off of just one copy of the game using Nintendo's GameShare feature. Star Fox will also feature support for the Switch 2 compatible Nintendo 64 controller.
New story elements and cutscenes have been added in this remake. There are also several difficulty options to choose from, which includes a harder difficulty setting.
There is also a competitive multiplayer component to the game with different game modes included. You will be able to play competitive multiplayer with or against friends, or just play against random players from all over the world.
Today's reveal includes plenty of gameplay footage. Be sure to watch the whole thing so you don't miss out on Yoshiaki Koizumi becoming a Fox McCloud VTuber as well as a look at the full introduction to the game.
