We've got another rumor mill rumor to share with you all today. We are moving on from the Wolfenstein 3 rumor and on to the rumor that just keeps on trucking: A Fallout 3 remaster or remake is supposedly coming at some point in the future.
Two separate sources are reporting that Bethesda is still working on a remaster of Fallout 3. Though it may be more akin to a remake of Fallout 3, depending on who you choose to believe.
Windows Central's Jez Corden says that "we are eventually getting a Fallout 3 remake in the vein of Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered." This would suggest that it is less of a remake and more of a remaster. The remaster of Oblivion was just an Unreal Engine 5 visual coat of paint over the underlying Gamebryo engine powering the game logic. As many players may know, the existing Gamebryo hitches combined with Unreal Engine 5 hitches to make for a rather unpleasant experience when travelling throughout the world.
Fueling this rumor is a new social post from leaker NateTheHate. A user asked NateTheHate about a mysterious countdown on the Fallout TV show website, wondering if it could be related to a Fallout game remaster reveal. In response, NateTheHate says, "Fallout 3 Remaster is a planned release" but says that he's uncertain if that countdown is for any sort of a reveal.
As for Fallout: New Vegas, Jez Corden says that we will also get a remaster of that game. When talking about the Fallout 3 remake, Corden says that its release will have "Fallout New Vegas on top." Corden cites the fact that original New Vegas developer, Obsidian, is presently working on four new projects and that Fallout co-creator Tim Cain recently joined the studio not too long ago.
Fallout 5 is allegedly greenlit at Bethesda. However, with Bethesda still working on The Elder Scrolls 6, which still has no release date.
