  • Ubisoft Wasn't Acquired, They Just Messed Up Their Accounting

    Not acquired yet at least.
    The Ubisoft swirl logo.

This past week, Ubisoft abruptly halted all trading of company shares. They also postponed the release of their full financial report mere minutes before a scheduled shareholder call was set to take place.

This led many to believe that Ubisoft was preparing to announce that they have been acquired by another company.

The reality of the situation is actually far more mundane than any of the speculation was. Ubisoft had to postpone their first half fiscal year 2025-2026 earnings report because of an accounting error. The studio must have found the issue a little too late to get it corrected in time for the previously scheduled call.

That earning's report is out today and outside of it possibly hinting at the release of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake, there really isn't too much else remarkable. Ubisoft shared that the deal between themselves and Tencent for a new subsidiary, Vantage Studios, should close in a matter of days.

There you have it: A rather mundane and boring explanation for what is going on with Ubisoft. That might be a first when it comes to news articles about this company.

      It's very effective.

Earlier in the year, we learned that Tencent was teaming up with Ubisoft to create a new subsidiary studio. This new studio, this new Ubisoft, would focus on popular Ubisoft IPs such as Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. The new subsidiary was valued at about €4 billion, which includes the roughly 25% investment (€1.16 billion) from Tencent.

Though work is still ongoing to get the studio opened by the end of the year, we...

Several upcoming titles are not headed to Steam.

Remember how in November 2022, Ubisoft made this big return to Steam? Since the initial release of Assassin's Creed Valhalla on Valve's platform, Ubisoft released several other newer titles. It looked like Ubisoft was playing a bit of catchup with releases on Steam after several of these titles enjoyed long exclusivity periods on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft's own storefront, Ubisoft Connect.

      With this trickle of Ubisoft...

Ubisoft is reportedly reorganizing into five distinct "Creative Houses."

Ubisoft's long process of internal reorganization continues today with the death of two of their studios and half a dozen in-development titles. Another seven titles have been delayed. This is all coming at a point where Ubisoft is splitting into five distinct "Creative Houses" with each focusing on distinct genres.

The six cancelled titles did not meet certain "enhanced...
