  • Ubisoft Blames Lack of Interest in Traditional Full-Priced Games for Falling Sales

It's all about the F2P and live-service games.

Traditional, full-priced games are dead! This is at least what Ubisoft would like to have us all believe given what they claim in their latest UK financial filing (via CityAM). Specifically, Ubisoft claims that "many new games are struggling to stand out" and they cannot "achieve the sales they may once had had."

Ubisoft is saying that a one-time purchase of a "full game" that costs between $65 and $80 (USD) is has "become less ubiquitous." Ubisoft claims that gamers are instead spending more money on "subscription services, long-running Games as a Service (GaaS), Free to Play Games, and cloud streaming."

Ubisoft continues to say that "consumers are playing fewer games," before admitting that there are "a few notable exceptions."

Ubisoft shared that their sales decreased by 29% compared to last year. Despite the declining sales, their revenues actually increased by 11% due in part "to the integration of the customer relationship centre activities." Though we're not sure of what that actually means.

Declining sales for Ubisoft may have a bit to do with the fact that they only released three titles in the past year: Assassin's Creed Shadows, Star Wars Outlaws, and Just Dance 2025. In the prior year, Ubisoft released six titles including Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Prince of Persia The Lost Crown.

The studio says that due to shrinking physical release schedules, they expect revenue to fall during its current financial year.

It's also important to note that many of Ubisoft's biggest franchises (Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six) will now be handled by the newly formed subsidiary created in partnership with Tencent.

Ubisoft laid off nearly 300 employees across various studios and departments throughout 2025.

Late last week, Ubisoft halted public trading of company shares. They also postponed the release of the full financial report (meaning all of Ubisoft, not just Ubisoft UK) mere minutes before a scheduled shareholder call was set to take place. Days later and Ubisoft still has not said what is going on. Halting the sale of company shares and delaying the release of their financials has led many to believe that Ubisoft will announce that they have been acquired by another business.

Words of wisdom from a failing company probably aren't worth listening to, actually you could take their suggestions and do the opposite so it is useful in that sense.

    It's very effective.

Earlier in the year, we learned that Tencent was teaming up with Ubisoft to create a new subsidiary studio. This new studio, this new Ubisoft, would focus on popular Ubisoft IPs such as Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six. The new subsidiary was valued at about €4 billion, which includes the roughly 25% investment (€1.16 billion) from Tencent.

Though work is still ongoing to get the studio opened by the end of the year, we...

Ubisoft is reportedly reorganizing into five distinct "Creative Houses."

Ubisoft's long process of internal reorganization continues today with the death of two of their studios and half a dozen in-development titles. Another seven titles have been delayed. This is all coming at a point where Ubisoft is splitting into five distinct "Creative Houses" with each focusing on distinct genres.

The six cancelled titles did not meet certain "enhanced...

Several upcoming titles are not headed to Steam.

Remember how in November 2022, Ubisoft made this big return to Steam? Since the initial release of Assassin's Creed Valhalla on Valve's platform, Ubisoft released several other newer titles. It looked like Ubisoft was playing a bit of catchup with releases on Steam after several of these titles enjoyed long exclusivity periods on the Epic Games Store and Ubisoft's own storefront, Ubisoft Connect.

    With this trickle of Ubisoft...
