Developer Red Barrels is set to inject a new level of terror into its co-op survival horror hit, The Outlast Trials. The studio has officially unveiled its upcoming Season 4 update, with the major highlight being a brand-new PvP game mode called Invasion Mode, which will launch on October 21, 2025.
This update marks a significant addition to the game, allowing players to directly interfere with others' progress for the first time.
What is Invasion Mode?
The new Invasion Mode is the central focus of the Season 4 update. This game mode allows you to "invade" the trial of another team, taking on the role of a deadly Imposter. Disguised among the other enemies, your objective is to sabotage the Reagents' (the players) progress and eliminate them using "brutally effective knives." This introduces a thrilling and unpredictable player-versus-player element to the established co-op formula, forcing players to be wary of not only the AI enemies but also cunning human opponents.New Events, Challenges, and More in Season 4
Alongside the game-changing Invasion Mode, the Season 4 update is packed with additional content to keep players engaged. Here’s what you can expect:- Geister 2025: A new time-limited event to celebrate the Halloween season.

- New MK-Challenges: Test your skills in two new challenges: "Beguile the Children" and "Investigate the Minotaur."
- New In-Game Store: A new shop will be added for players to browse.
Accessed via the Sleep Room Terminals, the new Invasion Mode allows players to join as either a Reagent or an Imposter. Only a limited number of Imposters can invade any given Trial, but while the others wait, they can be the eyes and ears of their murderous teammates. Each Imposter will get a chance to invade the Trial, as their peers succeed in their sabotage…or die trying.
