We continue to live in Bizarro World as evident by the fact that for the second quarter of 2025 (April - June), six out of the top 10 best selling PlayStation titles were from Xbox. Mat Piscatella of Circana (formerly the NPD) shared this rather surprising news in the morning hours of July 30th.
Circana's data tracks dollar sales, physical sales, and digital sales from those publishers that share their data with them. When looking at the top 10 best selling games on PlayStation from April through June, Microsoft dominates the list.
Several of the entries are new releases when compared to the previous quarter, including: Forza Horizon 5, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, Doom: The Dark Ages, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. The remaining Microsoft published titles appearing on the list weren't new releases, and include: Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Minecraft.
The four non-Microsoft published titles on the list are: Elden Ring: Nightreign, MLB: The Show 25, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Assassin's Creed Shadows.
This news come at around the same time that Microsoft reported their Q2 earnings. Microsoft saw their gaming revenue up 10% when compared to the same period last year. Xbox content and services revenues were up 13%, helped greatly by an increase in first-party game sales and Game Pass subscriptions.
Really, the only things that declined for Microsoft this past quarter are hardware sales, the number of games in active development, and the number of people they employ. Ahem.
As for the top 10 selling titles on Xbox and Switch, Piscatella posted those charts as well. You can see those, as well as the ordered PlayStation top selling list below.
