  • People Can Fly Suffers More Layoffs as Two Projects Cancelled

More unfortunate news for People Can Fly.

Today we made a very difficult decision to suspend the development of project Gemini and project Bifrost—the relevant current reports have been released to the market. The suspension of the Gemini project is a consequence of the fact that the Publisher has not presented us with a draft of the subsequent content rider to the Publishing Agreement covering the terms and conditions of further milestones on project Gemini and the lack of communication from the Publisher as to its willingness to continue or terminate the Gemini project. Project Bifrost was suspended due to the above and the analysis of the Group's cash flow, which showed a lack of prospects for securing organizational resources and funds necessary to continue the production and release of this project. As a result, we have to significantly regroup as a studio and scale down our teams, which hurts the most. We wish to express our deepest regret and sadness over how these events have unfolded and our sincere gratitude for everyone's contribution up to this point. Sebastian Wojciechowski CEO.People Can Fly announced that they have halted development on two projects. As a result of these projects being cancelled, the studio had to "scale down" their teams, which is just a gentle way of saying that layoffs have once again hit the studio.

This is now the second round of layoffs to hit People Can Fly in about six months. About 120 employees were laid off in December 2024. The number of layoffs made today were not disclosed.

The two projects that were cancelled include Project Gemini and Project Bifrost. No information on what these two projects were was ever shared with the public. A statement was published to social media from People Can Fly's CEO, Sebastian Wojciechowski.

Today's statement does not mention any specifics. We have no idea what these projects were, but we do know who the publisher in question was. When layoffs hit People Can Fly in January 2024, it was stated that Project Gemini was an in-development game that was going to be published by Square Enix.

We do know that People Can fly is currently helping The Coalition on the development of the Gears prequel, Gears of War: E-Day. Back in March, People Can Fly also entered into a partnership with Sony to create a new prototype for a Sony IP under the codename of Project Delta. For now, it can still be safely assumed that Project Delta is still being worked on by People Can Fly for Sony.

In April 2024, People Can Fly cancelled another title that was reportedly in development for several years. That game was internally referred to as Project Dagger.

Besides VR versions of Green Hell in 2022 and Bulletstorm in 2024, the last game developed by People Can Fly was 2021's Outriders.

Sony Interactive Entertainment San Diego was hit with a round of layoffs today that saw upwards of 50 people being let go from the studio. In fact, every team except the one working on MLB: The Show were affected by today's layoffs. This information was first brought to light from one of the affected employees that wished to remain anonymous in their disclosure to Polygon. Sony confirmed the layoffs by stating that there was a "reduction in headcount." That actually sounds a lot worse...
