  • Until Dawn Remake Studio Suffers Mass Layoffs, is "Effectively Closed"

Ballistic Moon is basically no more.

The Until Dawn Remake came out in late 2024 for PlayStation 5 and PC. The studio behind this remake effort, Ballistic Moon, is "effectively closed now" following mass layoffs at the studio. This is according to anonymous sources that spoke with Insider Gaming.

In September 2024, a month before the Until Dawn remake was launched, an undisclosed number of employees were laid off from Ballistic Moon. Those layoffs were publicly announced by the studio. The latest is that those layoffs in September amounted to about 40 employees losing their jobs. That left "around 20" employees left for post-launch support on Until Dawn. Almost all of those remaining 20 employees were then laid off in December 2024, leaving just a few remaining "at most" alongside the studio founders. There are reportedly no employees left working in "public relations, marketing, or development."

The studio reportedly failed to find funding or publishers for their new projects. Ballistic Moon were also reportedly in talks with Sony on various new Until Dawn projects that seem to have fallen through. Hints of an Until Dawn sequel were teased by both Peter Stormare and Hayden Panettiere last year.

Regarding working at the studio, most who spoke said that it was a generally good place to work. Many spoke highly of their teams and the work being done. What they didn’t like, though, were instances of unpaid overtime. One former employee equated it to “weeks” of unpaid work and that the internal announcement of redundancies came after the team had worked overtime.

“Nice reward for our hard work,” they said.
We wish all of the employees that have been impacted by this the very best of luck.

Companies using developers, chewing up a studio, then spitting out the remains and leaving them for dead? A classic tale.
