It's getting hard to ignore the hints.
On New Year's Eve, we had G-Man voice actor Mike Shapiro drop a subtle nod to something on the horizon for Half-Life. If it wasn't enough that he used the G-Man voice, his social media post also included various Half-Life and Valve hashtags.
Shapiro's Tweet included a bit of a mysterious image that people quickly found was related to a song, Best Long Dog, he uploaded to his YouTube on December 16, 2024. People noticed that the image seems to include the number "197" in the windows of the building in the image. Apparently 197 is also the length of the song in seconds. It also Coincidentally, 197 is also related to the dates that Shapiro uploaded his songs.
There's a pretty wild conspiracy thread going on via Reddit's r/HalfLife. The post kind of gives a breakdown of some of the common numbers that are related to Shapiro's video uploads. While some of the assumptions made in that post aren't entirely convincing (Breengrub, for example), other stuff does seem to be a little too on the nose to be mere coincidence.
Then there is word that Valve might have begun a Friends and Family testing phase for something called "HLX." That rumor is tied to the rumor that "HLX" is perhaps a new Half-Life game, be it something like "Half-Life X" or Half-Life 3.
There have been several rumors and leaks that have popped up over the past several months that people assume have to do with a new Half-Life. Some of those rumors have already fallen flat, such as the rumor that Half-Life 3 would be shown at The Game Awards.
There have been several other rumors that sprung up over the past several months. These rumors suggest that Valve conducted internal tests on things like a voxel-based destruction engine, gunplay, weather systems, day/night cycles, and more. There is even a bit about how Valve has been testing systems involving gravity alteration and thermodynamics.
Naturally, with nothing actually announced yet it's hard to tell what's real and what isn't. Besides, just because Valve tests something internally doesn't mean it's for a new Half-Life game. The stuff with Mike Shapiro and the songs could just be a massive coincidence or a bit of tomfoolery. We've all been waiting for Half-Life 3 for 21 years now, perhaps we're just trying to see connections where there aren't any.
Then again, it really isn't out of the question for Valve to make a game out of a new reveal. ARG, if only there was some way to know for sure!

by Shawn ZipayShapiro hints that his next project is a "blast from the past."
Though Valve has just released Half-Life: Alyx, it wasn't exactly the Half-Life game many fans of the series wanted. Sure, it's an absolutely fantastic game but it's not exactly Half-Life 3, you know? Though it took Valve almost 13 years to get any sort of a new Half-Life game released after Half-Life 2: Episode Two, there may actually be something else coming sooner than you may think.
