From horse armor to JPGs, there really is no limit on what companies will charge for when it comes to DLC on games. Age of Mythology: Retold is a fresh release of the classic 2002 strategy title.
The game itself has already earned some rather solid review scores from both critics (83% on OpenCritic) and players (92% on Steam) alike. One thing that isn't sitting well with fans is the inclusion of a $6 Legacy Deity Portrait Pack.
This piece of DLC allows you to substitute the updated artwork for the various gods and deities with the original artwork from the 2002 release. This $6 DLC is also included as part of the $49.99 Premium Edition of the game. The Premium Edition at least has the added benefit of including immediate access to two upcoming expansions and had seven days of early access.
It's hard to disagree with the backlash against this DLC. $6 for a handful of JPG images that came with the 2002 release is a real tough pill to swallow. It should have been a freely available toggle included in all versions of the game.
The backlash against the $6 JPG DLC has extended to reviews on Steam where it sits at just a 16% "Very Negative" user score.
Why they can't make that a region specific bit of censorship i do not know.
