In a statement issued to Nintendo investors, the company revealed that they are setting out to create a live-action Legend of Zelda movie. This film will be produced by Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, chairman of Arad Productions. Wes Ball will serve as the film's director.
Nintendo is also teaming up with Sony Pictures Entertainment to co-finance the film, with more than 50% financed by Nintendo. Sony Pictures will handle the theatrical release when the time comes.
Arad has credits on several major films, including Iron Man, X-Men, and most of the latest Spider-Man films. He is also a producer on the still upcoming Borderlands film. According to some additional information shared by Deadline, Jurassic World writer Derek Connolly will write the script.
This week's announcement comes after Nintendo struck box office gold with The Super Mario Bros. Movie. According to estimates, The Super Mario Bros. Movie pulled in over $1.36 billion (USD) at the global box office.
Details on casting and story were not yet shared by any of the studios involved with the film.
