This isn't the Silent Hill 2 remake in development from Bloober Team. This isn't the prequel game, Silent Hill F. This isn't even the spin-off Silent Hill: Townfall from developer No Code. Hell, Silent Hill: Ascension isn't even a game period.
Genvid Entertainment's Silent Hill: Ascension is an interactive streaming series where viewers will be able to vote on how story elements play out. Ascension is set to start on October 31 and while each episode will be free, there will be a mobile companion app that mentions in-app purchases.
The CEO of Genvid, Jacob Navok, took to Twitter to try to clear the air on how this whole thing is and is not monetized. He reiterates that the episodes can be watched for free on mobile and other platforms. Then he says the monetization is more akin to a Twitch subscription, rather than some free-to-play style of monetization. Because again, Silent Hill: Townfall isn't a game.
The mobile lists several IP Bundles of different sizes and prices listed for the app. There is also a "Season Pass" as one of the monetization options.
The first episode of Silent Hill: Ascension will be streamed on October 31 at 9PM (ET). After, it will be available as a video-on-demand at a higher resolution so you can watch the show whenever you want. Navok notes that you do not need to watch each episode live in order to vote. However, there will be some things that are only available while watching live.
Genvid is reportedly working on an interactive series for Borderlands and another for the DC Universe.
