Cabined Accounts will create a safer and more inclusive place for younger gamers to play.

Epic Games just announced a new type of Epic account that will offer "a tailored experience that is safe and inclusive for younger players." They're called Cabined Accounts and they will let children play Fortnite without having to deal with the larger, and often not very "PG," community.

Epic says that players all around the world will see a one-time request for their age when they log into Fortnite. If you are below the age threshold (currently undisclosed, but possibly 18?), your Epic account will become a Cabined Account. At this point, you will then be asked to provide a parent or guardian's email address to begin the parental consent process.

Cabined Accounts will have full access to any previously purchased or earned in-game content and will be able to play Fortnite same as before. These players with Cabined Accounts will need Parental Controls set in order to access certain features. Once the parent or guardian sets up Parental Controls, Cabined Accounts will go back to a regular Epic account that respects the settings that the parent or guardian has set up.

This new account type goes hand-in-hand with other measures Epic Games announced in September to protect younger players online. Some players under the age of 18 who did not previously provide their age will see some settings reset to their highest privacy option.

Chat defaults to “Nobody," your profile details default to hidden, parties default to “Invite Only," and personalized recommendations will be turned off. If you are under the age of 16, you will also have the mature language filter defaulted on.
If your default settings have changed, you will be notified of the changes and have the option to change account settings unless they are already restricted by Parental Controls or a Cabined Account.

Chapter 4 for Fortnite launched just this week. With it came a significant engine and visual upgrade.
