Cheaper than the Elite Series 2 but still feature packed.
Xbox Elite Series 2 vs Series 2 Core

Microsoft announced a new Xbox controller today that they're calling the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 CORE (or Elite 2 Core for short). This new controller is based off of the rather pricey Xbox Elite Series 2 controller but will be cheaper and will include fewer features than the Elite 2 but more features than the basic controller. As such, the Elite 2 Core is priced at $129.99 (USD). In comparison, the Elite Series 2 is $179.99 and the basic controller is typically $49.99 to $59.99.

The Elite 2 Core will not include a carrying case, paddles, extra thumbsticks, or any extra D-Pad options. If you want to get the Elite 2 Core and get the extra components later on, Microsoft will let you buy them in what they're calling a Complete Component Pack. Just keep in mind that this pack will run you $59.99 (USD), which would ultimately make the total cost higher than if you just bought the Elite 2 in the first place. Of course, the Complete Component Pack is also useful for those with the Elite 2 non-Core model who may want some additional replacement parts.

Microsoft also confirmed that the Elite 2 controller is coming to the Xbox Design Lab this holiday season. Today's announcement does not make it clear whether or not the Elite 2 Core will also be an option at the Design Lab or if it will just include the Elite 2 non-Core model.

The Elite 2 Core will have features such as rubberized grips, integrated rechargeable battery (charged via USB-C), improved thumb stick tension, hair-trigger locks, and the ability to remap buttons. Pre-orders for the Elite 2 Core are available through Xbox.com with shipping starting on September 21, 2022.
