Kratos will utilize the power of the elements in combat.
God of War Ragnarok

God of War Ragnarök is still apparently holding strong with its November 9, 2022 release date. That means Santa Monica Studio is starting to ramp up its media push for the highly anticipated sequel. This month, Game Informer has been given some exclusive first looks at Ragnarök and various gameplay aspects.

One of the first major reveals from Game Informer's coverage shows how Kratos will be able to infuse the power of the elements into his combat attacks. This new mechanic is part of Santa Monica Studio's efforts to expand the ways in which players can engage in combat. Along with these elemental attacks, the environment will also be used in some ways during combat encounters.

The footage, seen below, shows off a couple of examples. The Leviathan Axe can be given a little extra chill with something called Frost Awaken. Meanwhile, the Blades of Chaos seem like they will lean more towards more powerful fire-based attacks, one of which is called Whiplash. You can see these abilities utilized as Kratos battles against foes named Fossegrim, or grim for short.

Improvements to the shield of Kratos were made as well. An ability called Dauntless is good for quick parries that can fling and stun enemies. Meanwhile, Stonewall removes the parry option but is great for just absorbing lots of damage as Kratos charges in. Hits made against the shield while Stonewall is up eventually charges it to the point where it can be slammed into the ground, which knocks down everyone in a circle around Kratos.

If that wasn't enough God of War Ragnarök footage to satiate your wants, worry not because another video came out today. The video, seen below, features information shared by Santa Monica Studio's lead level designer James Riding and level designer Jon Hickenbottom. The two offered Game Informer information and footage for the dwarven realm of Svartalfheim.

There will undoubtedly be more God of War Ragnarök information and footage coming in the days and weeks ahead.
