Was the Last of Us Remake Necessary?
5Yes0%0No100.00%5Other0%0The poll is expired.
The remake of The Last of Us was just released on PlayStation 5 and well, was it really necessary to remake a game that came out less than a decade ago? Maybe it was, but is the $70 (USD) price justified for a game that has already been released twice prior in 2013 and again in 2014?Posting comments is disabled for guests. On one hand it does technically look better, runs at 60fps and i haven't heard of any issues with the presentation or gameplay, but on the other the visual update doesn't warrant the price but also i'm someone who likes to preserve the original vision of something. A remake of Max Payne is in the works and i don't have a problem with that because there are things they can do, what if they replace the voice actor for Max? That could be weird and interesting, i personally don't think current Remedy can match or improve upon the original but i'm not against them having a go, there's also a remake of System Shock on the way and that's a great idea, there's plenty of reasons why someone might not want to play the original, but TLOU? Granted the "remake" moniker is a bit generous as it's basically the same game, but the original was a game of the year winner and still readily playable via the remastered edition.
A side effect of re-releasing something with new visuals is it becomes the new face of that thing, when you look up TLOU this is the version you will see, which by virtue of being a questionably quick "remake" has lower review scores than the original, so even though it's technically better than the original it has lowered overall perception of that game.
One good thing about this release is the potential for it to be released on PC, which wouldn't normally be the case for a Sony title but we live in strange times, that's the best part about re-releases is the opportunity for fans of other platforms to gain access to previously exclusive games, some sites have reported that it will be coming to PC but i'm still calling it a maybe.
