The biggest and boldest bunny around, Big Chungus, has just been trademarked by Warner Bros. in the European Union. The trademark filing was first discovered and shared by Andrew Marmo via Twitter. The filing was made on August 26 of this year. The trademark is still "under examination" at the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
Included in the filing is the amazing sketch that you can see above.
Though it does not specify what this filing may be used for, it could be a rather safe assumption that Warner Bros. is looking to add Big Chungus to MultiVersus, their recently released free-to-play brawler.
Big Chungus, known for being a meme far and wide, first came from a 1941 cartoon where Bugs Bunny assumes this rotund form in order to mock Elmer Fudd. The actual name of "Big Chungus" came from a couple of sources. Know Your Meme says that "chungus" was first coined by games media journalist James Stephanie Sterling prior to December 2012. It was then added to Urban Dictionary in late 2012. The history then gets a little fuzzy up until near the end of 2016 when the name "Big Chungus" was first seen. It wasn't until 2018 until "Big Chungus" was added to an image of Bugs Bunny and thus the meme as we know it was born.
Perhaps my explanation of the meme's origin didn't do Big Chungus justice. You know what? I'll just let Liquid Snake explain it for you.
