The last balancing-focused patch for Diablo II was released on March 23, 2010. In early 2022, the first balancing and content update in almost 12 years will be released for Diablo II: Resurrected. That 2010 update brought Diablo II up to version 1.13c. This was the foundation from which Diablo II: Resurrected was created.
Blizzard announced that they will release a new patch in early 2022 that will first enter into the Public Test Realm (PTR) on PC. This update will make some significant changes to the game and bring Diablo II: Resurrected up to patch 2.4.
This update will rework all of the game's classes to some extent. This update will also add back in Ladder Play to the game. There will also be some new Rune Word items added. Some items will get buffed a bit. Your AI companions, Mercenaries, will also be reworked.
An example of what Blizzard will be doing to each class can be found below with their plans are to balance the Sorceress class.
There is no greater master of elemental magic than these mages. We're very satisfied with the Sorceress’s current state, but we see a few of opportunities for improvements.
Regarding Cold Skills, we believe there can be more diversity with the armor skills (I.e., Frozen Armor, Shiver Armor, and Chilling Armor) for distinctive advantages.
We are also looking into adding more build possibilities around lesser used Lightning skills by exploring more skill synergies.
Lastly, we’re also revisiting Fire skills, to improve underused ones, like Hydra. Similar to Arctic Blast, we're exploring making player control improvements to the Inferno skill so that it is less clunky to use.
