Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says that the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are now officially the fastest-selling Xbox consoles ever.

This reveal came during Microsoft's earnings call earlier today. Microsoft announced that they have sold more Series X|S consoles than any previous Xbox generation has in the same amount of time. Due to limited supply of chips, availability is still super limited across the board though, meaning that this record could have been even more extreme. It is possible that shortages of Xbox consoles (and other hardware) will continue well into 2023.

The earnings call also revealed that gaming revenues were up $357 million compared to the same quarter in 2020. That's an increase of about 11% year-over-year. Hardware sales, in particular, were up 172% compared to the same time last year. That just makes sense since Microsoft didn't have a new console release available yet in early 2020.

On the flip side, services revenues were down $128 million, or 4%, compared to last year. This seems to be largely due to fewer games being released overall. Yes, COVID-19 and having to work from home probably had a ton to do with this.
