Mafia: Definitive Edition

Three games. Three eras. That's the idea behind the newly announced Mafia: Trilogy. Though only presented with a short teaser and some screenshots, we do know a few key ideas behind the Mafia: Trilogy.

First off, it looks as though the first Mafia title will be called Mafia: Definitive Edition and will be a full remake. We're talking about some gorgeous looking visuals and modern conveniences on a game that originally came out back in 2002. We know this purely because the Microsoft Store has a listing for this Mafia: Definitive Edition along with a separate listing for Mafia II: Definitive Edition. Those public Store listings have since been made private.

Here is where the speculation kicks in. The Mafia Twitter account is saying that this is a "Mafia: Trilogy" which leads one to believe that all three games will be included in one bundle. The fact that there were separate Microsoft Store listings with separate release dates for the first two games seems to indicate otherwise. Right now, it's just a speculation that there will be a release that includes all three games together, but they can still be purchased separately if desired.

The Microsoft Store listed a release date of August 28, 2020 for Mafia: Definitive Edition and a release date of May 19, 2020 for Mafia II: Definitive Edition. Again, these dates may not be correct.

Speaking of purchasing, we know from the teaser trailer that this Mafia: Trilogy will hit the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC via both Steam and the Epic Games Store. We will know more about pricing and release dates when the full reveal hits on May 19.

Details about Mafia: Definitive Edition can be found below. Included before that are some truly gorgeous looking screenshots. Keep in mind that this is what the original release looks like:

Mafia 1Mafia 1

Now compare that to the following images pulled from the Microsoft Store listing for the game. That's quite the multi-generational leap.

As far as Mafia II: Definitive Edition is concerned, this one is just a remaster, not a full remake. The game hasn't really aged all that poorly, at least not like the original did. So a full remake just isn't necessary for Mafia II. However, this means that the game should run without some of the issues that plague the current PC release of the game that exists. I'm talking about performance hitches and outright crashes (at least in my experience from having played it just a couple of years back).

Feel free to enjoy these Mafia II: Definitive Edition screenshots and information. All of this was also pulled from a now private Microsoft Store listing.
