Hey everybody, OnLive is still a thing! Well, it will be still a thing until April 30 when it will shut down (again) for good. As of today, no additional subscription renewals will take place for OnLive. If you were charged for a subscription on or after March 20, you will be issued a refund.

All is not lost, however, as Sony has bought over 140 cloud gaming patents that OnLive held.
"These strategic purchases open up great opportunities for our gamers, and gives Sony a formidable patent portfolio in cloud gaming," says Philip Rosenberg, VP of Global Business Development of SCE and SVP Business Development and Publisher Relations of SCEA.

"It is yet another proof point that demonstrates our commitment to changing the way gamers experience the world of PlayStation."

This shutdown follows a rather interesting history for the company. Launched in December 2010, the streaming game service never really took off with anybody. The company suffered huge layoffs in late 2012 at which point Lauder Partners picked up OnLive's assets. In March 2014, OnLive returned with a new business plan that included a monthly subscription fee. It uh... obviously never really worked out for them in the end.
