The update brings the app closer to Material design. It's by no means a great Material design but it's sure as hell a lot better than what we had prior. Hopefully this is the first update of many that will bring the Steam Android app completely in line with a modern and Material design. Let's also hope that it doesn't take another few years before we see additional updates. The changelog can be found below along with some screenshots that a Reddit user originally uploaded.
- Changing from one screen to another is faster
- Will not use battery when it is inactive
- Will not log in unexpectedly
- If possible, when resumed, the application will return to the screen it was on
- Startup screen can be set
- Chat history from other devices is available
- Chat history for offline friends is available
- Navigation menu has links to Inventory, Library, going offline for chat and logging out
- Material design, higher res images, simplified settings, faster on older devices
- Other fixes

I uh... Actually didn't update the previous two updates, because I forgot to ask if the Steam app remembers your login info if I log out of the app. You see, I have Steam Guard on, but the Steam app logs in the moment I open the app even when I exited with a logout previously.
So uh Zips, does this convenience (albeit not as secure) still happen, or will I have to put in my username, password, and generated code in the app every time I come back after logging out of the app?
I don't know... Even if it doesn't do it anymore, the catch-up features are tempting me to update anyways.
How about now though? I didn't even install the previous update because I don't know if Steam Guard authenticator would mean no more auto logins on app launch. If this isn't the case, then I'll at least update to where everybody else is.
It had my login credentials still in there from the previous version, so it started up just fine.
I then logged out via the app.
Next time I started, it prompted me for my username and password. I put them in and the app force closed on me.
I restarted and was logged in.
I logged out again and closed the app.
I started it back up and manually logged in and there was no prompt at any point for my Steam Guard.
Thinking it's because I already authenticated my phone a while ago using the old version I logged out again.
Then I manually forced stopped the app from the application manager.
Then I cleared cache and data from the application manager.
I restarted the app and it obviously prompted me for my name and pass again. I put them in and then it prompted me for my authentication code. Got the email, put the code in, and logged in just fine.
Restarted once again (logged out, restarted) and it only prompted me for my name and pass since it now had the Steam Guard information stored already.
Does that answer your question? If you want it to prompt for Steam Guard each time, it seems as though you'd have to clear data/cache every time you're done using the app. Logging out does seem to work as expected by prompting you for your name and pass each time. If you don't manually select "Sign Out" from the options, it will restart without prompting for your name and pass.
.............. Wait, I just said exit application didn't I?.... DAMN IT! I said logout a bajillion times earlier! Well then, nothing like completely misleading you! I shall commence self-kicking immediately.
Anyways, my question (before I stupidly made it unnecessarily confusing) is basically "Can I exit the app completely without losing the auto-login and bypassing of Steam Guard for the next time I return to the app? I want to exit the app because I don't want Steam to be running in the background and being logged into my Friends list, etc."
Geez I'm an idiot.
With all that said, because of how thorough you were in testing every possible scenario, and explaining every possible option I have, you have more than answered my question and made it very assuring for me to jump right into updating (both the two updates I hesitated to get, and the upcoming one you installed).
Thank you Zips for your time in doing this favor for me and entertaining my misleading and confusingly worded question. Much appreciated. Looking forward to when Google Play tells me to update Steam.
