Activision says that they have banned over 65,000 accounts from both Call of Duty: Warzone and Modern Warfare 3 just in the past week alone. The announcement comes from Activision's team working on Ricochet anti-cheat.
This latest massive ban wave comes roughly a week after Activision said that they "deployed new detections targeting Ranked Play cheaters and boosters" in Warzone. At that time, the studio said they banned an undisclosed number of accounts and removed those accounts from various leaderboards.
A sizable number of boosters were also targeted in this latest ban wave. These are people that game the system either through exploits or cheating to drastically inflate their rank, unlock new gear, or fly up the leaderboards. Some boosters even managed to create lobbies that were just full of bots in order to boost their ranks.
While 65,000 bans is nothing to sneeze at, many players are still skeptical that this will do much to tackle the cheater problem. Call of Duty: Warzone is free to play, meaning that many of those cheaters will return from their bans with new accounts, registered to burner phones or something like a new Google Voice number.
