Updates so big, we'll probably need more than one news post.

It's a big day for Battlefield 6 players. Today marks the release of Season 1, the release of Update 1.1.1.0, and the launch of the free battle royale mode. There are also new Twitch Drops available starting today for those that need some additional cosmetic items.

REDSEC

The Battlefield 6 battle royale mode, REDSEC, has been released! The free-to-play offering will drop players into Fort Lyndon, featuring "massive-scale destruction, fast-paced squad play, and the deadliest ring in BR." Like other battle royale games, the objectives are simple: Don't die and be the last squad standing to win.

Players drop into a massive battle with 100 players, explore a massive world for powerful loot, and take down enemy squads through Battlefield’s signature gameplay experience. The power of Tactical Destruction brings an entirely new level of strategy to the genre, as players create their own paths to victory or turn the environment into their own deadly weapon while crushing opposing squads. Each round is a bombastic ride on an incredible cinematic scale that Battlefield is known for.
Battlefield Studios notes that all progress carries over between REDSEC and the main All-Out-Warfare content in Battlefield 6. This includes your career rank, hardware unlocks, hardware progression, customization items, badges, and Battle Pass progress.

Gauntlet

In addition to REDSEC, Fort Lyndon will also be home to a new Gauntlet mode. This mode features fast-paced elimination between 8 teams of 4-player squads. Teams will compete "in a series of dynamic round-based missions in a tournament-style format." Each round runs for five minutes and features random locations and missions that need to be completed.

Fort Lyndon is also available for use in Battlefield Portal. Given the place area of the map, this should allow Portal creators the freedom to create some very unique experiences with the available scripting and customization tools.

“Battlefield 6 launched a little over two weeks ago and shattered every franchise record we have, quickly becoming one of the biggest launches of the year…and we’re not done yet,” said Byron Beede, General Manager of Battlefield. “The next chapter of our Battlefield universe launches today with Battlefield REDSEC, our new experience that includes Battle Royale crafted with the series’ explosive DNA, to our cutthroat squad competition mode Gauntlet, and even new ways for our community to build and experience Portal. REDSEC is everything you love about Battlefield – destruction, intense combat, vehicular carnage – in a new, massive playspace that’s free for everyone to experience.”

Season 1

The first Season in Battlefield 6 begins today with an all-new map, Blackwell Fields. There is also a new mode, Strikepoint, as well as a new vehicle and new weapons.

Blackwell Fields is an ominous large-scale All-Out-Warfare map set in Southern California with military facilities and scattered homesteads under siege, all under the backdrop of a breathtaking burning horizon. Each Multiplayer mode will focus on different areas of the map, with Conquest focusing on the full Badlands. Mid-sized and small team tactical modes, such as Breakthrough and the new Multiplayer mode Strikepoint, are played on an area in and around the map’s military depot, while small modes are centered around the fields’ scrapyard.
Strikepoint, the new game mode introduced in Season 1, is designed for 4v4 battles. This is a fast-paced first to 6 match with no respawns and only one capture point. To win a round, a team needs to either capture the point or eliminate the enemy team.

The new vehicle is an armored transport named the Traverser Mark 2. This is an infantry support vehicle that features "strong onboard firepower as well as benefits for nearby allies."

Bulkier than the Light Ground Transport with some mine blast protection , both NATO and PAX Armata use the Traverser Mark 2 to breach frontlines with its mounted roof gun and additional fire support from side gunner seats. Should a squadmate need a respawn, it can also serve as a spawn point.

Its unique passive abilities grant benefits to all allies near the vehicle even if it is unoccupied; unlike most vehicles, staying near the Traverser Mark 2 will keep it under friendly team control and prevent it from being stolen. Rank up this hardware to discover its versatility, especially in tightly packed areas such as urban sprawls.
New weapons and attachments added today include:
  • SOR-300C - Carbine Rifle
  • Mini Scout - Sniper Rifle
  • GGH-22 - Sidearm
  • Rail Cover - Attachment for some weapons - Improves weapon draw speed and mobility slightly
  • SU-230 LPVO (Low Powered Variable Optic) - Attachment for some weapons - Magnification levels ranging from 1x to 4x that can be manually adjusted
