  • Console-Only Crossplay Mode Confirmed for Battlefield 6

The Battlefield 6 teams at Battlefield Studios and Electronic Arts say that there is a console-only crossplay mode in development. This mod will ensure that those who are playing Battlefield 6 on either PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will be able to play with and against each other without worrying about mingling with the PC players.

In an interview with IGN, Battlefield 6 technical director Christian Buhl and senior console combat designer Matthew Nickerson confirmed the console-only crossplay option. Crossplay is turned on by default and can be turned off in the options.

With crossplay enabled, Battlefield 6 will prioritize matchmaking with other console players first. Then after some time has passed, if more players are still needed to fill up a lobby, it will then fill the pool with PC players.

When console players turn off crossplay in the options, the console-only crossplay is enabled. This will limit game lobbies to only PlayStation and Xbox players and PC players will not be a part of the lobby. Depending on player populations, this could lead to slightly longer wait times as lobbies fill.
