  • The Cube, Save Us Ends Up as Another Failed Online Shooter

Closure comes just weeks after launch.

Another online shooter has come to a quick end. This time it's The Cube, Save Us that is coming to an end just three weeks following its launch. The extraction shooter by XLGames just failed to pull in any sort of a bustling audience and will be fully taken offline on May 7 at 6PM PT.

According to today's shutdown notice, even the Discord server for The Cube, Save Us will be closed on May 7 at 6 PM PT.

The good news is that there will be "full refunds(...) issued for all items legitimately purchased via Steam." Those refunds will start to go out on April 9. Refunds will be issued automatically without the need for any separate request.

The Cube, Save Us was a free-to-play title that had a peak player count of just 5,177 when it released three weeks back. As the days went on, that player count dwindled down to just a couple of hundred people playing at any given point during the day. Reviews for the game also failed to rise above "Mostly Negative" on Steam, with the top review calling the game "trash" and a "complete cash grab."

Issues aside, the game also released at a time where both Arc Raiders and Marathon exist. Arc Raiders is still pulling in over 100,000 players at each day's peak some five months after release. Marathon is also doing somewhat well with about 28,000 people playing during peak times.

The Cube, Save Us should probably not be confused with The Cube (from Mundfish) or The Cube, TheCube, TheCube, or Cube.

Cube World is Coming to Steam
      by Shawn Zipay
Let me take you back to the year 2013...

In 2013, a little game called Cube World came out in an "alpha" release. It was a cute, stylized adventure-RPG that offered a ton of freedom, battles, exploration, and more. A big appeal of the alpha was being able to have all of these adventures with your friends in one world. To its credit, the limited content of the alpha was quite enjoyable but the promise of bigger and better was always just around the corner. The problem came...
