Bungie's upcoming extraction shooter, Marathon, has a new release date set. During the "Visions of Marathon" ViDoc, the studio announced that Marathon will release in March 2026 and has a "target price" set at $39.99 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The new Visions of Marathon ViDoc offers fans and would-be fans a look at this PvPvE, FPS, extraction shooter that Bungie has been working on for a while now. The ViDoc includes about 23 minutes of footage for Marathon, offering one of the longest looks yet at the title.
That "target price" of $39.99 would put Marathon on even footing with titles such as Arc Raiders and Helldivers 2. That $39.99 price will get you "purchase benefits" like "access to all gameplay updates as the year progress" and also access to the "Cryo Archive" which is the first deck of the UESC Marathon ship. This first deck will open up to players at some point during Season 1.
Beyond that? It's unclear just what the $39.99 will get you after that first year. That is, there is no indication that you may have to pay more for new content in Year 2 or if that original $39.99 will continue to get you new gameplay additions at no added cost.
At the very least, Bungie says that there will not be any pay-to-win mechanics and that "gameplay outcomes (exfiltration or death) are never determined by spending." Furthermore, Bungie says that Rewards Passes (presumably Season Passes) will never expire. Players will be able to earn rewards from previously purchased passes at any time. Players will also be able to purchase previously released Rewards Passes.

Today, Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny, premiered the “Vision of Marathon” ViDoc of their PvPvE survival extraction FPS Marathon. In Marathon, players scavenge the lost colony of Tau Ceti IV as a bio-cybernetic Runner while surviving against hostile security forces, rival Runners, and inhospitable environments to seek their fortune. As part of the ViDoc, Bungie developers showcased updates to the tactical shooter, including:
- Proximity chat
- Solo queue
- A Rook shell with a limited loadout, used to scavenge in-progress rounds
- Enhanced the survival experience, immersion, and danger of the world
- Increased visual fidelity and updated UI
- And more!
