GOG just announced that they have joined the European Federation of Game Archives, Museums, and Preservation Projects (EFGAMP). This move is an expansion of GOG's own Preservation Program, which aims to keep classic titles playable on modern systems for the foreseeable future.
The EFGAMP is the largest organization in Europe that is "dedicated to preserving video games as cultural heritage." The group is comprised of over 20 "heritage institutions and other other organizations." Their goal is to collect and preserve digital games. Some of the members of EFGAMP include The Video Game Museum in Rome, Computerspielemuseum in Berlin, The Neterhlands Institute for Sound & Vision, and more.
GOG is the "first Polish institute to join" EFGAMP.
The Purpose of the Association is the facilitation of the preservation of the heritage of interactive entertainment and information media and content, the facilitation of public access to such media and content, the gathering and circulation of knowledge concerning preservation of such media and content, the coordination of international activities with the aim of preservation of such media and content, the support of collaboration of international organisations of private and governmental nature acting in this field, the facilitation of knowledge and experience exchange, the contact to governmental and political institutions with the aim to improve the political, legal and economical framework and public relation concerning the preservation of such media and content.

Over the past decade, we’ve honed our expertise in this area. The GOG Preservation Program, which ensures compatibility for over 100 games and delivers hundreds of enhancements, is just one example of this commitment. We were thrilled to see the Program warmly received not only by our players but also by our partners and the gaming industry as a whole”.
